Frequently asked questions

Here you'll find a collection of the most frequently asked questions. I'm happy to answer any further open topics in our discovery call.

Cost

Does the discovery call cost anything?

No. 30 minutes, free of charge and without obligation. Within about 50 kilometres of Lörrach — including Basel and the surrounding area — I am happy to come to you for it at no charge.

What does an initial assessment cost after the free call?

After the discovery call you receive a transparent quote for the assessment — scope and cost are fixed in advance, before you decide.

What does working together cost?

That depends on the task and its scope — I can only give you a serious figure once I know what it is about. That is exactly what the discovery call is for: it is free, without obligation, and afterwards you know the range.

Which billing models are available?

Depending on the engagement, three routes: 1. An hourly rate (time & material) 2. A monthly subscription model for ongoing leadership, such as an interim CIO engagement 3. A fixed price for a clearly scoped project. What fits best is determined by the shape of the task — and is open to negotiation.

Why is there no price on the website?

Because a number without knowing the task would be either too high or too low. A two-week assessment and a one-year programme engagement have nothing in common. Price becomes relevant after the discovery call — not before.

Discovery call

Does the discovery call cost anything?

No. 30 minutes, free of charge and without obligation. Within about 50 kilometres of Lörrach — including Basel and the surrounding area — I am happy to come to you for it at no charge.

How does the discovery call work?

You do not need to prepare anything or bring documents. You describe your situation, I ask questions and put things in order: what is critical, what can wait, where are the risks? By the end you know how I would proceed — or you hear from me that you do not need me. That is a result too.

How quickly do I get a reply to my enquiry?

Within 48 hours, personally from me. You speak directly with me — not with an assistant and not with a sales team.

Is getting in touch free and without obligation?

Yes. Both the enquiry and the discovery call are free and without obligation. You describe your initiative, I tell you openly what I make of it — with no commitment.

Am I under any obligation after the call?

No. You buy nothing in this call and commit to nothing. Afterwards you decide in your own time — I only follow up if you explicitly ask me to.

Why can’t I book a time online directly?

There are actually two reasons: 1. Because I stay available to my clients at short notice for certain initiatives, automated scheduling is not always possible. 2. Because this website deliberately runs without cookies and without tracking. An embedded booking tool would bring both. Instead you suggest times that suit you in the form and I confirm the appointment personally by email.

Organisation

Are you available for companies in Switzerland too?

Yes. From Lörrach I work across the whole German-Swiss border region as well as in southern Germany and Switzerland — in German and English.

Could you come to us in person?

Yes. If your location is no more than about 50 km from Lörrach, I am happy to come by in person for a first meeting. Over longer distances we start by video — an on-site meeting can be arranged at any time afterwards.

Do you work remotely or on site?

Both — depending on what the initiative needs. Some phases run more efficiently remotely, others need presence: kick-off, critical steering meetings, resolving conflict in the team. We agree the rhythm together and adjust it as needs change.

How does an engagement work — scope, availability, duration, pricing model?

It depends on your situation — from a few days per month to intensive support during a crisis. Scope, availability, duration and pricing model (time-based fee, monthly retainer or fixed price) we agree together after the discovery call.

How soon could you start?

I work on demand — when I can start depends on my current workload. Tell me in the discovery call when you need support and you get an honest answer straight away as to whether and how I can cover it. If it does not fit, I say so openly.

What happens at the end of an engagement?

Handover instead of dependency. The goal is that your organisation can carry on without me afterwards: documented structures, a team that knows the ropes and a status picture that holds up without me.

Which languages do you work in?

German and English — in meetings, in documentation and in reporting.

Which region do you work in?

I am based in Lörrach in the tri-border region and work on both sides of the border — southern Baden, Basel and north-western Switzerland. Remote work also makes engagements outside the region possible.

Terminology

What is OCM (Organizational Change Management)?

OCM — Organizational Change Management — is the structured way of guiding people through a change. It ensures a new solution is not just introduced technically but accepted and lived by the people affected — instead of being worked around.

Why is change management important?

Whether an initiative succeeds is decided by people, not technology. The most common reason projects fail or stall is resistance and a lack of acceptance — not technical faults. Change management addresses exactly that: it brings people along early, creates clarity, and anchors the change so the intended benefit actually materialises.

Is OCM relevant for my projects too?

Yes — almost always. As soon as ways of working, processes, roles or systems change, people are affected. For me OCM therefore belongs in every initiative: as a standalone change project where useful, and in smaller initiatives as a natural part of project steering — right-sized, never for its own sake.

Do you also offer change management as a standalone project?

Yes. OCM can be a standalone engagement — or an integral part of a transformation, project rescue or project leadership. What makes sense in your case we clarify in a discovery call.

Do you offer IT-as-a-Service (ITaaS)?

No — ITaaS usually means running IT operations as a service, for example through an IT provider with an operations team. My offering is IT leadership: interim CIO, project/programme management and PMO on demand. Closest to the operations idea are my interim cover in IT service management and infrastructure projects for SMEs — both with a clear end and handover, not continuous operations.

What does PMO as a Service mean?

You buy the capability of a project management office flexibly instead of building your own department: portfolio prioritisation, consistent methods and a reliable status picture for your leadership. That is exactly what I offer under PMO & Portfolio Management — scaled to your needs, with a clean handover to your organisation.

What is PM as a Service (PMaaS)?

Project leadership as a flexibly purchased service instead of a permanent hire: an experienced project or programme manager takes on your initiative for its duration — from clean setup to rescuing a project that is going off the rails. That corresponds to my Project & Programme Management service.

Trust

Are there references, case examples or anonymised results from comparable companies?

Yes. Selected voices and results can be found on the case-studies page. Examples: from an initial 400 commissioned migrations, orders for around 1,500 more followed; roughly 20% lower service costs across three service units; a Switzerland-wide migration of 2,500 clients during live operations.

Do you advise vendor-neutrally — or do you also sell or broker solutions later?

I advise vendor-neutrally and neither sell software/licences nor receive commissions from vendors.

Do you know your way around my industry?

My experience focuses on life sciences/pharma, manufacturing, as well as IT and consulting — in part over 20 years. Beyond that I have worked in further industries, from telecommunications and the public sector to SMEs and retail. Industry knowledge matters to me, but where it is missing I get up to speed in a structured way — that is part of the craft.

How do you handle confidential information — security gaps, system landscape, contracts, costs?

I treat all information as strictly confidential and pass nothing on to third parties. Sensitive topics such as security gaps I document and communicate only via secure channels and only with the people who need to know.

Working together

Can you strengthen the existing IT leadership instead of bypassing or replacing it?

I replace no one — I support and strengthen your IT leadership: as a sparring partner, a mentor and extra capacity when you need it. During peaks or critical phases in particular, I work as a peer with your team, with knowledge transfer and a clean handover.

Do you work alone?

Yes, I handle the majority of my engagements myself — which means a single, reliable point of contact for you, without friction from changing teams. For topics that need specialist expertise outside my focus, I draw on a network of experienced experts whom I bring in specifically as needed.

How much of your time do I get?

That depends on the task. An interim CIO engagement often runs on a few days per month; a project rescue needs considerably more at the start. We agree the scope together after the discovery call.

Didn't find what you were looking for?

Then let's settle it directly. 30 minutes, free of charge and without obligation – you describe your initiative, I tell you openly what I make of it.
